ScotlandShop is delighted to join the Friends of Arbroath Abbey for this year’s Declaration Day celebrations at the historic Arbroath Abbey on 6 April. This community event marks the moment in 1320 when the Declaration of Arbroath was sent from Scotland’s east coast to the Pope in Avignon, a historic appeal for Scotland’s recognition on the international stage. The day is a celebration of heritage and history with no political intention, simply a chance to honour one of Scotland’s most treasured documents.
The Abbey and Museum will be open from 9am with free entry for all visitors. From 1pm, participants will gather at the Abbey for a short briefing before the parade steps off at 13:20. Led by pipe bands, the procession will make its way down the High Street and towards the harbour, echoing the journey the original Declaration once began.
Festivities continue from 2pm at Beacon Green and around the Signal Tower next to the harbour, where stalls, music, and entertainment will create a welcoming atmosphere for families, locals, and visitors alike.
We will be on Beacon Green with our full collection of swatch books featuring more than 500 Scottish tartans. Whether you are searching for your Clan colours or simply exploring your heritage, our team will be on hand to help. You will also be able to browse product samples, feel the fabrics, and chat with us about custom made and tailored garments. Tape measures will certainly be at the ready.
We would love to see you there and to share this special celebration of Scottish history and community.
